CIARA SEXTON

Few names in Irish dance carry the weight of both competitive mastery and global stage presence quite like Ciara Sexton. A five-time World and All-Ireland Champion, she has not only dominated the competitive circuit but has also left an indelible mark on the world of performance, starring in Riverdance, Lord of the Dance, and Heartbeat of Home.

From the moment she first stepped onto the dance floor, Ciara’s talent was undeniable. Trained under Marion & Róisín Turley in Coventry, she quickly rose to the pinnacle of competition, securing titles across World, All-Ireland, North American, and Great Britain Championships. But for Ciara, Irish dance was never just about competition—it was about storytelling, artistry, and pushing the boundaries of what was possible.

Her transition to the professional stage was seamless. As Morrighan in Lord of the Dance, she mesmerized audiences with her commanding stage presence and technical brilliance, leading to performances on Broadway and world-renowned stages across Europe and North America. In 2019, she stepped into a new role—director and choreographer—with Fáinne Óir, a production that debuted in Ireland before making its way to Broadway, further solidifying her reputation as an innovator in Irish dance.

Beyond the stage, Ciara’s passion lies in education and mentorship. A TCRG-certified instructor, she has taught and lectured at The Irish World Academy at the University of Limerick, shaping the next generation of dancers at both undergraduate and master’s levels. Now, as co-leader of Scoil Uí Nualláin, she brings a wealth of knowledge in both competitive training and performance coaching, ensuring that dancers of all backgrounds have the opportunity to excel in their own journey—whether in competition, professional dance, or personal development.

Her contributions to Irish dance extend beyond performance and teaching. In 2025, she is set to release her debut children’s book, My First Book of Irish Dance, introducing young readers to the fundamentals of the art form through beautifully crafted words and illustrations.

For Ciara, Irish dance is not just about steps—it’s about expression, evolution, and ensuring that the tradition moves forward while staying true to its roots. As she continues to shape the future of Scoil Uí Nualláin, her influence on the world of Irish dance remains as strong as ever.

Raised within the very heart of Scoil Uí Nualláin, Cian Nolan carries forward a legacy of champions, blending technical mastery, competitive success, and a deep respect for tradition. As the son of Tony & Rose Nolan, Cian grew up immersed in the rhythms of Irish dance, training under two of the most influential figures in Munster’s dance community. With an unparalleled competitive career, a world-class professional performance background, and years of experience as a respected ADCRG adjudicator and educator, he remains a driving force in shaping the next generation of Irish dancers.

From his earliest years, Cian’s talent was undeniable. He went on to claim four World Championship titles, along with seven All-Ireland, two North American, and four Great Britain titles. A particular highlight of his career was securing gold in Minor, Junior, and Senior Céilí events, as well as competing with the three-time Senior World Champion Figure team, solidifying his place as one of Ireland’s most accomplished dancers.

Following his retirement from competition, Cian took his talents to the world stage, performing with The Chieftains across Europe before joining Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance, where he toured globally as both a lead dancer and dance captain. His years on stage refined his performance artistry and leadership skills, preparing him for his future as an educator.

In 2012, Cian earned his ADCRG certification, becoming one of the most sought-after adjudicators in Irish dance, judging competitions worldwide. He returned home to Scoil Uí Nualláin, where he taught alongside his parents before stepping into their shoes to carry the school forward into a new era.

Now, alongside his wife and teaching partner, Ciara Sexton, Cian continues to lead Scoil Uí Nualláin with a focus on excellence, inclusivity, and innovation, ensuring that dancers—whether competitive, performance-driven, or simply passionate about the tradition—have the opportunity to learn, grow, and excel in an environment rooted in both history and progress.

As a husband, father, teacher, and adjudicator, Cian balances family life with a lifelong dedication to Irish dance, ensuring that the legacy of Scoil Uí Nualláin not only endures but thrives for generations to come.
